The Children's Gallery of Black History

“When you hear meaningful stories of the lives of great people, you know you have the potential to do great things later on in your own life. History and the humanities are a powerful way to bring that to the surface.”

Children’s Gallery of Black History is a dynamic, interactive history museum dedicated to engaging children and youth in history and culture through hands-on learning exhibits focused on the lives of “Great People” from our past and present. The Gallery also travels as a mobile series throughout the year, visiting schools, after-school groups, churches, and festivals.  The Gallery impacts up to 2,000 children and youth annually.

The Children’s Gallery is a core component of M.O.M.I.E’s mission and goals.  The Gallery was established in 2003 to respond to the tremendous need for more cultural and educational experiences for our low-income children and youth. For the past 16 years, the Gallery has demonstrated an impressive track record of results and impact, working with over 60 public and public charter schools, churches, and after-school programs, and impacting over 10,000 children and youth in DC.

In-Class Children's Gallery Series

The In-Class Children’s Gallery Series builds on M.O.M.I.E’s award-winning arts & humanities curriculum, The Great Persons Series, and The Children’s Gallery of Black History. The ICCGS partners with public/public charter schools to implement holistic, enriching, and critically-needed humanities, history, and social justice education, in efforts to give our children a powerful means to deepen their self-awareness, improve racial equity and healing within our communities, and build critical 21st-century learning skills to equip them for success and stability.
